VIDA, Volunteers for Intercultural & Definitive Adventures is a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica and USA. VIDA provides free basic health, dental, and veterinary care to impoverished communities in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. VIDA offers pre-med, pre-dental, pre-veterinarian students a unique hands-on volunteer experience.
VIDA volunteers work along side host country health care professionals to help those in need while learning about tropcial medicine, preventitive medicine, etc.
VIDA offers volunteers a chance to explore Central America and the various cultures, discover tropical medicine, and engage in exciting recreational activities. VIDA volunteer groups travel around the country for 2 weeks, setting up mobile health clinics, and treating basic illnesses such as parasites, upper respiratory illnesses, dermatitis, vaginal infections, gastro-intestinal illnesses, muscle-skeletal issues, etc.
The basic dental care includes cleanings, exractions and fillings. The basic veterinary care includes deworming, castration, etc.
VIDA teams usually arrive in the months of December, January, March, May, June, July, August, and September.
VIDA works closely with the US Peace Corps, other host country non-profit organizations, the local ministry of health, and community leaders to ensure quality of service to those communities that are in most need.
